The run

Three hours on the Wangan, not a highlight reel

Daikoku PA sits inside a loop of elevated expressway with no train station and no footpath. The only way in is to drive. That is the whole reason this exists: we put you in the passenger seat of a car people cross oceans to see, and take the route it was built for.

  • Passenger seat, not a tour bus

    One to three guests per car. You hear the turbos spool and watch the driver work the gearbox from an arm's length away.

  • The actual roads

    Bayshore Route, the C1 loop, the tunnels under Ginza. These are the roads in the games and the films, driven at legal speed at the hour they were meant for.

  • The meet itself

    Daikoku fills with hundreds of cars on run nights. Your driver knows the regulars and will introduce you. Bring a camera.

  • Daikoku Night

    The one people come to Japan for. Out through the bay tunnels, along the Bayshore Route, and into Daikoku PA while it fills up. Friday and Saturday only, because that is when the meet happens.

    A shooter rides along and cuts a two to three minute film of your run. Delivered within a week.

    A second car runs alongside for rolling shots you cannot get from inside. Daikoku and Hakone runs only.

How it works

Four steps

    Tell us the date

    Send the form or a DM with your date, group size and which car you want. We reply within a day.

  2. 02

    We confirm the car

    We hold the car for your date and send you the meeting details. Pay on the night, in cash or by card.

  3. 03

    We collect you

    Pickup from any hotel in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Minato or Chiyoda. No need to find us.

  4. 04

    The run

    Out on the expressway, stops for photos, and back to your hotel at the end.

Safety

The unglamorous part

Insured for passengers
Every car carries passenger liability cover. Certificates are available on request before you book.
Legal speeds
These are public roads and we drive them as such. If you are looking for speed, we will point you at a circuit day instead.
Rain and closures
Runs go ahead in rain. If police close Daikoku, we reroute to another meet and tell you before we set off.
Cancellation
Free until 24 hours before departure. Inside 24 hours we charge half, because the car and driver are already committed.

Two cars in the fleet can be driven by guests. Both are manual, both are easy to place on a road, and both come with a lead car so you are never navigating alone.

Before you plan on driving

Japan accepts International Driving Permits issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, plus licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco and Taiwan with an official Japanese translation. Permits issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention are not valid here, so the country on your licence matters more than you would expect.

Tell us where your licence was issued and we will confirm before you book.

Licences issued in mainland China cannot be used to drive in Japan under any permit. Our runs with a driver are open to everyone.

Questions

Asked most often

Why is Daikoku only Friday and Saturday?

Because that is when the meet happens. On other nights the parking area is nearly empty, and you would be paying for an empty car park. Our other routes run every day.

Do I need to speak Japanese?

No. Your driver speaks English, and the whole run is designed for visitors.

Can I drive?

On two of the six cars, if your licence is valid in Japan and you can drive a manual. Everything else is with a driver.

Is there an age limit?

Passengers of any age are welcome with a guardian. Self-drive requires you to be 21 or older.

What happens if it rains?

The run goes ahead. Wet asphalt under sodium lights is arguably the better photograph.

How do I pay?

Cash or card on the night. Nothing is charged when you enquire.

Where do you pick up?

Any hotel in Shibuya, Shinjuku, Minato or Chiyoda. Outside those wards, ask and we will usually make it work.

Can I film inside the car?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Mounts are available if you bring your own camera.
